Review: This is my favourite Special Effects dye. Not only because it's the one I hear suits me most mind ;P It goes on a really fresh dark blue, I was toying with the idea of going black again but decided doing it a really dark funky colour and this does the job! It doesn't contrast with dark roots either so you don't have to bleach too often for touch ups. I mix a little with my conditioner to keep the colour fresh and from that, a little goesa loooong way! I only put a couple of squirts in and you can hardly tell which is conditioner and which is the dye! Highly recommended! -Zoe-

Review: I'm a real fan of blue velvet, it comes out so dark at first but fades through a range of gorgeous blues. My friend grem tried this dye and it went a little funny in his hair, bleeding everywhere and rubbing off all the time and faded grey for him so i was dubious when i used what was left in streaks on myself but i was pleasantly surprised. On me the blue came out brilliantly and faded into a purple colour although that's probably an effect of the atomic pink and pimpin purple i had in there too. I also tried dying a midsection of my long hair blue and it kept blue the whole time much to my surprise and it also maintained the purple of all the hair beneath it too! -Elisabeth-

Review: Fantastic dye; by far the best blue I've ever used. This came out a vibrant and rich blue-black on my medium-bleached hair (I'm Asian, and it's super hard to bleach my hair to a pale yellow color). I only left it on for 30 minutes before washing it out and you'd think I'd left it on for 3 hours, that's how intense the color was! It appeared to have its own luminescence when it was fresh, and faded to deep purple after a month of washing my hair every day under hot water. Normally this is the death knell for most blue dyes, but not this one! This shade also didn't bleed out in the shower even after the first wash. It is absolutely stunning in the sunlight. My only issues with this dye are that I wished it faded to more of a true and lighter blue instead of purple, and that it was hard to remove from my hair even with bleach. If you're looking for a long-lasting, deep blue which fades purple, this is definitely it! -SynapticDefection-

Review: I LOVE BLUE VELVET! I have used this dye religiously (well I only get time to dye my hair on Sundays!) for 4 years (apart from a two week flirt with Pimpin Purple (also lush!) whilst my boss wasn't looking). It is brilliant, vibrant and my hair has never looked in better condition. I leave it on for roughly two hours and use a hair dryer for 15 minutes whilst I've got the dye on to help the colour sink in. It has a purple base so even when faded it looks good. I've also noticed that when I brush my hair after using hairspray it sends it a very vibrant purple! The colour is best described as 'inky blue' like what the colour of ink in fountain pens! I'm now in the quest for a red dye that can give me the same performance. I've ordered Blood Red and i'll let you know how I get on. -Susie Who?-

Review: This is not the colour for you if you love your bathroom in its current colour! It definatley dies the bath a lovely shade of purple. I left it on my unbleached medium brown for an hour. It worked so well! I'm SUPER happy! My only quibble would be thats its more purple than blue... but its fab! With the help of this dye I raised over £50 for comic relief! Love it! -Briony-

Review: One of the colors that got me most compliments from everybody! Begins like this beautiful, rich, deep indigo color, and slowly fades to a pretty blue-based shade of purple. I had it for two months and it never looked faded! It just looked like i had dyed my hair purple instead of blue. I strongly recommend it if you are going for a bright, rich, long lasting color! -Damaris-

Review: Wow! I had it bleached from dark reddy brown this morning in the hairdressers, and she applied the Blue Velvet. Wrapped it in cling film and a scarf, went shopping, had a sleep, and 5 hours later it is a deep navy blue indoors and very vibrant dark blue outside. Very very messy to wash off. Had a panic about the bath turning blue, but it's ok now! Looking forward to seeing how it fades. -Andamooka-

Review: This is my favorite color that SFX has to offer. It lasted well over a month, almost two, before it even started to fade. It took 3-4 months to start looking purple. This was over really faded Cherry Bomb, which was pink at that point. This dye didn't bleed as much as the other colors I tried and it didn't stain everything horribly either. -Ambivalent-

Review: I bought this originally to mix with green to create a shade I had in my head. It came out beautifully but I only recently realised how gorgeous this colour is on its own!! It lasts for ages and ages (unheard of for a blue!) and take several washes before it starts to go slightly purple. It also goes easily over Atomic Pink, which is fairly amazing. Overall a beautiful colour that lasts and lasts. -Blamethrower-

Review: As my hair had previously been dyed black, my hair was a bit patchy (yellow and orange) after bleaching despite this it covered it uniformly. =) Initially I was dissapointed as my hair turned out darker than the test strand - it was almost black and I had purple "highlights" running through it. After a few washes it went a nice dark blue, however. Later I put the remaining dye in a conditioning treatment and left that on after each wash I haven't noticed much fade since then. The longest layer of my hair is waist length and normal in texture so I was surprised that I only needed 3/4 of a bottle to cover the lot! -Louise-

Pros: Long lasting, No "tidemark" i.e. the roots aren't noticably different from the rest of my hair, 1 bottle goes a long way

Cons: Goes on much darker initially, Stains EVERYTHING blue - I still wake up to find my ears, face etc have gone blue (I've had a similar problem with most dyes though)

Review: On unbleached dark hair it left a dark blue sheen. I loved it. Stayed in for ages, some parts longer than others, leaving me with blue streaks for ages. -Trudy-

Review: This was such a lovely colour it even was velvety for about 4 weeks, i left the dye in for about 2 hours but it nurished my hair rather than drying it out;it also caused it not to fade for a good 4 months, it stayed a really good blue throughout ^_^ -Melanie-

Review: Hoorah! Its the first blue hair dye thats lasted longer than 2 weeks that keeps its colour! Ive ordered 2 bottles of this now and i recommend this product and definetly recommend purchasing from "bee unique itsa purple base dye and although it annoys me when people say "ey love the purple" within a few washes the purple seems to die down and the blue shows. Ive just ordered "blue hair freak" so i'll let u know how it goes. By the way i pre bleach my hair to as light as mine will go! -Kelly-

Review: There were some troubles with this order, but it was handled so well by the site that I won't make any complains. Very trust-worthy and I just shopped on the site again :) The colour was a real bargain because: 1) It stays fresh-looking one zillion times longer in my hair compared to the colours I can buy at home in Denmark (directions and stargazer) 2) My hair isn't that thick and these bottles are pretty big so I used less than 50% of the bottle to dye my entire hair. = I dyed my hair in the end of august and now at the end of October I just did my second touch-up with the very same bottle! Amazing - and cheap! The basic colour is a very dark blue (dyed on platin bleached hair) but it changes a lot - sometimes it looks black, sometimes it looks like Blue Mayhem and sometimes it looks purple (it gets more purple for every wash because it's a purple-based dye) The colour bleeds a lot – especially until it has been washed a couple of times. So take some times for showers including hair wash. Fading: It fades slowly on roots and almost doesn't fade at all on plain bleached hair (excluding split ends that tends to fade as well) - but overall less and slower fading than any other dye I've used. -Sofie-
